Education Minister Prof.G.L.Peiris announced that the results of the GCE Advanced Level 2020 Examination will be released within the next seven days. The GCE Advanced Level Examination 2020 was held from October 12 to November 6 with the participation of 3,62,824 students amidst the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic in the country. However, earlier Minister Peiris announced that they intend to release the results by the end of April 2021.

Education Minister Prof. G. L. Peiris announced that the results of the 2020 GCE Advanced Level Examination will be released within the next seven days.
He also said that the Education Ministry would take a decision, on May 2, on the opening of the schools on May 3 after reviewing the COVID 19 pandemic situation in the country.
He made these observations during a press conference of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) held at the Waters’ Edge in Battaramulla with the participation of MP Sagara Kariyawasam.
The GCE Advanced Level Examination 2020 was held from October 12 to November 6 with the participation of 362,824 students amidst the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic in the country.
Minister G.L.Peiris said that however with all these difficulties the Government managed to correct the papers and prepare for the release of results next week.
He said further that the Government is concerned very much about the education of the children and their health as well. He added that the Ministry decided to close the schools, preschools, Pirivenas and private tuitions across the country until April 30th. He also added however the situation is reviewed with facts daily along with the Province Education Ministers and the Zonal Education Directors. He added that in consultation with the Health Director General and other relevant authorities, the reopening of the schools will be decided on May 2.
The Minister further appreciated the arrival of the Chinese Defence Minister Gen. Wei Fenghe at a crucial moment and also appreciated China’s firm stance in favour of Sri Lanka at the UNHRC in Geneva last March. He added that Gen Wei Fenghe is a significant personality in China as he is not only a Minister but a member of the Chinese Diplomatic Council as well. Minister Peiris added that Gen Fenghe has close connections with the Chinese Political Leadership.
The Minister said further that China is celebrating the 100 year anniversary of the Chinese Communist Party in another two months time. He noted that the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna has close connections with the Chinese Communist Party.
