Sri Lanka Qualifications Framework (SLQF) is
the mechanism that standardizes qualifications and provides equivalents to
other qualifications locally and globally.
RQF, which was formerly known as NVQ is the British qualification
framework and other countries such as Australia, New Zealand also provides
similar standardizations for their qualifications.
In this blog we attempt to explain the Sri
Lanka’s Qualification framework popularly abbreviated as SLQF.
For students undertaking higher studies in
Sri Lanka having an understanding of the SLQF is important. In Sri Lanka there
are many private providers of qualifications and many students do not have an
understanding or knowledge of the level or source of accreditation of the
qualification they have gained. Framework covers a range of qualifications from
certificates to doctoral degrees based on the complexity of learning, starting
with level 1 certificate to level 10 doctoral degree.
This was introduced with the aim of improving
the quality of higher education and training through a recognized comparison of
different qualifications providing a comprehensive, nationally consistent,
flexible framework for all qualifications in post-secondary education and
training. It combines higher education and training into a single framework and
brings together the diverse higher education and training systems into a single
national system.
Understanding
about this establishment is helpful to improve many aspects of the learning
process and to make it easier for students to identify the levels of Education
required when applying for jobs, and also to provide a clear understanding of
the system to develop links with courses of the higher education institutions
abroad.
It is
of immense importance for a student seeking to pursue higher studies, to have a
thorough understanding of the education levels they are going to follow to
prevent themselves being lost halfway through their studies. It is equally
important to see if the Institution they are going to enroll at and the program
they are going to follow are also recognized and approved by the relevant
authorities. University Grants commission(UGC) is the local body to fund state
universities and their homegrown degrees while also accrediting degrees offered
by the Private Institutes in Sri Lanka affiliated with foreign Universities in
developed countries. Therefore, prior to starting a degree in Sri Lanka it is
substantial to check with the UGC if the specific program and their University
is UGC approved to ensure a future for that qualification.
Sri
Lanka Scholar website covers about 3000 courses offered by over 150 Institutes
in Sri Lanka with transfer options to countries like Australia, UK, Canada,
Malaysia. The Website also provides you the information of the Institutes and
helps you to segregate the Institutes that are UGC approved and not .You can visit
the website throughwww.srilankascholar.lkand be opened
