Business leader Dhammika Perera’s philanthropic initiative ‘DP Education’ has attracted 500,000 students in record time and plans to offer a diploma bundling Math, English and IT in collaboration with the University of Moratuwa.
DP Education is a first-of-its-kind platform in the world on which the entire school curriculum is available for students to study online for free.
Considering the fact that Sri Lanka’s student population is 4.2 million, reaching half a million in less than a year is impressive. The voluntary onboarding of students can be partly attributed to the COVID-19 pandemic which has converted a large number of students to study their curriculum online.
A spokesman for DP Education said the planned bundled diploma offering is for students above 18 years of old.
“This diploma will enable 20,000 students annually above the age of 18 to be ready to take on jobs in the IT sector. This diploma will be made available free-of-charge to the students by DP Education,” the spokesman added.
“Innovative ways of fostering education and making it available online will definitely lead to a more educated and skilled workforce. An educated and skilled workforce is one of the key factors that investors look at when entering new markets.”
