Course Description

This programme is designed to produce graduates that have a high level of knowledge across a variety of computing technologies. Students will learn principles of computer science, such as mathematics, algorithms, data structures and ethics; as well as learn practical skills such as programming, user centred design, web development and mobile application development. The uptake of digital technology in society has greatly increased our need for interactive computing devices. Whether these are for entertainment, education, work, health care or transport, computing devices have become an intrinsic part of everyday life .Coventry University has an established practical approach to the teaching of computing subjects through activity-led learning, collaborative technical projects and simulation of real world problems. Given the breadth of the subject domain, graduates of the computing course are well positioned for a range of employment opportunities including software development, database/systems administration, mobile application development, web development and user centred design to name a few. Entry Requirements

For entry into year 1:
Diploma in Computer System Design (DCSD)

  • Two Simple passes at G.C.E A/L (local or London) in any stream OR
  • Five Credits in G.C.E O/L (local or London) including Credit passes for Mathematics and English or ICT and English OR
  • Successfully completed a relevant IT Certificate at NIBM

OR

Diploma in Software Engineering (DSE)

  • Two Simple passes at G.C.E A/L (local or London) in Biology/ Mathematics/ICT stream
  • Sat for G.C.E A/L (local or London) in Biology/ Mathematics/ICT stream and Five Credits in G.C.E O/L (local or London)  including Credit passes for Mathematics and English or ICT and English OR
  • Successfully completed a relevant IT Certificate at NIBM

OR

Diploma in Information and Communication Technology (DICT)

  • Two Simple passes at G.C.E A/L (local or London) in any stream OR
  • Five Credits in G.C.E O/L (local or London) including Credit passes for Mathematics and English or ICT and English OR
  • Successfully completed a relevant IT Certificate at NIBM


For entry into year 2: Higher National Diploma in Software Engineering (HNDSE)

  • Successfully completed the Diploma in Software Engineering/Diploma in Computer System Design/Diploma in ITC at NIBM OR
  • Successfully completed a Diploma in Computer Science (equivalent to NVQ 5) from a recognized institute OR
  • Any recognized Professional Qualification

OR

Higher National Diploma in Information Systems (HNDIS)

  • Successfully completed the Diploma in Software Engineering/Diploma in Computer System Design/Diploma in ICT at NIBM OR
  • Successfully completed a Diploma in Computer Science (equivalent to NVQ 5) from a recognized institute OR
  • Any recognized Professional Qualification


For entry into year 3: 
BSc (Hons) Computing

  • Successfully completed the Diploma in Software Engineering /System Design/ICT at NIBM with Relevant Experience

OR

  • Successfully completed the Higher National Diploma in Software Engineering/Higher National Diploma in Information Systems.
